ID:17050293 / Runkel is one of several small romantic villages along the Lahn river and is located in the most western part of the Taunus, a mountain range in central Germany, not too far away from Frankfurt am Main. In the past years I have passed the area of Limburg an der Lahn numerous times, but never found a good occasion to explore the area a bit. This day timing was perfect and while I was driving south on Autobahn A3 behind a dying thunderstorm, I decided to try my luck in Runkel to capture it middle age castle.

It is used as training center for the DAV (German Alpine Club) among other alpine clubs. Various alpine and high alpine routes start from this mountain house.

I found this hut just outside a small village located at approx. 1000m elevation. Just after a thunderstorm some low clouds passed in front of a mountain range in the background, making for a nice composition.
